Microplastics are defined as small pieces of plastic less than 5 mm in length, which result from plastic pollution in the environment. They can be formed unintentionally from larger plastic items, such as car tires and synthetic textiles, as they wear down Encyclopedia Britannica+1. Microplastics are a significant environmental concern due to their potential impact on human and ecological health.
