ABOUT US

I’m Lori Keins, and my husband, Jim Gaetani, and I welcome you to Being Better Goods. What began as a personal search for knowledge and better choices has grown into a space dedicated to sharing clear, simplified education and thoughtfully selected products—helping others make more informed, healthier decisions.

The idea for Being Better Goods started more than a decade ago. On an ordinary trip to a big-box store, I found myself overwhelmed by aisle after aisle of plastic containers and household products. I began to reflect not only on our own consumption, but on the collective impact—multiplying what we purchased by every household, every store, every shelf. That same week, as I wheeled our recycling bin to the curb, I noticed it overflowing with detergent bottles, shampoo containers, and packaging from everyday essentials. In that moment, I realized: we need to do better.

From then on, I became committed to making more responsible choices for our family—recycling more intentionally, seeking out products with more sustainable packaging, and continually educating myself. I also began sharing what I learned with family and friends who were asking the same questions. Jim has been a steady partner in this journey, fully embracing the effort to live more consciously.

Over time, our understanding has deepened. We’ve learned more about the harmful effects of plastics and chemical exposures on both the environment and human health—especially the growing concerns around microplastics. As a registered nurse specializing in gastroenterology, I’ve learned firsthand how these exposures can affect not only the digestive system, but overall health. That perspective has strengthened my commitment to making better choices and helping others do the same.

What we’ve also realized is how complex and overwhelming this information can be—and how limited truly better options often are. That realization is what ultimately sparked Being Better Goods. We created this space to bring together the issues that are deeply connected—from sustainability to personal health—and to make them easier to understand and act on.

We are thoughtful consumers who believe small, intentional changes matter. By recycling more effectively, choosing responsible and sustainable products, and reducing exposure to harmful chemicals in our everyday lives, we can all take meaningful steps toward Being Better.
